Represented in this painting is Wirrulnga, a rockhole site east of the Kiwirrkura Community, Western Australia. Associated with birth, the rockhole is shown in the central roundel with the lines adjacent denoting a pregnant woman from the Napaltjarri kinship who gave birth at the site. In mythological times a group of women camped at Wirrulnga and made spun hair-string to make nyimparra (hair-string skirts worn in ceremonies). Afterwards they travelled north-east to Wilkinkarra (Lake Mackay) gathering bush food (kampurarrpa) and desert raisin, Solanum central, a plant whose berries are able to be eaten raw or ground into paste to make damper.
