Consigning to auction

One of our main aims is to ensure our clients have a very positive experience from the point of consignment through to settlement of their proceeds of sale. We take the responsibility of handling our vendors’ property very seriously. Our goal is to present and promote works of art with the highest levels of care and professionalism, providing our vendors with the greatest possible financial return.

Every written auction proposal presented by Deutscher and Hackett is transparent, unique and considered. Works of art are carefully researched, and our recommended auction estimates are based upon prices achieved for comparable material at auction in the past. In the case of higher value works we typically include information regarding Deutscher and Hackett’s past performance with each of these artists. Consideration is given to the auction timing and venue location, as well as the optimal presentation of each item in the printed catalogue. Our marketing strategy is clearly explained, together with selling commission rates and associated costs. All logistical aspects are contemplated, with specialist transport, insurance and storage needs addressed.

If you are considering selling art and would like a complimentary appraisal or to discuss further with an art specialist.

Buying at auction

Buying at auction

Acquiring works of art at auction with Deutscher and Hackett is intended to be both an engaging and rewarding experience. Our team is committed to ensuring that clients feel informed, supported and confident throughout every stage of the buying process – whether purchasing at auction for the first time or building upon an established collection.

Clients may bid at our live auctions by registering in advance or on the day of sale. Buyer registration forms are available via our website, within our printed auction catalogues, or at either of our Melbourne and Sydney galleries. For those unable to attend an auction in person, we also offer telephone and absentee bidding services, thus enabling clients to participate in our auctions from anywhere in the world with ease and discretion.

Additionally, clients may participate online through the live bidding platform, Invaluable. First-time users will be required to register directly with Invaluable in order to obtain pre-approval status, and we recommend completing registration at least 24 hours prior to the commencement of the auction. Once approved, clients will automatically be pre-approved for future Deutscher and Hackett auctions conducted via the Invaluable platform. Please note that registration through Invaluable is separate from direct registration with Deutscher and Hackett. Our auctions may also be viewed live online via Invaluable, free of charge and without registration.

Should you be successful in purchasing at auction, you will receive an invoice within 24 hours of the sale for the total hammer price plus Buyer’s Premium and GST, with payment due within 7 days. Our registrar can assist in making arrangements for delivery anywhere in the world – with complimentary transport offered between our Melbourne and Sydney gallery premises following each auction.

Should you require further assistance with any aspect of the buying process – whether it be registration, bidding arrangements or wish to discuss a particular work of art for sale – we encourage you to contact us below.
