Ian Abdulla's paintings are stories about his life, beginning with his childhood. Growing up in the Murray River region of South Australia, Abdulla records events about his family and community life. The paintings portray daily events such as fishing, going to church, fruit picking, and playing footy. His paintings are an important record, in both words and pictures, made all the more interesting through the subjectivity of hindsight. Naive in style, the work has an unexpected sophistication.
