In addition to being a painter, I Made Budi is also a carver, musician, and dancer. He usually combines traditional themes from Balinese religion and mythology with contemporary images of reality on the island. Budi popularized the idea of showing tourists in his works. He was awarded the Dharma Kusuma, Bali, 1982, is represented in collections in Honolulu, Hawaii, and has been included in exhibitions at The Contemporary Art Center, Honolulu, Hawaii, 1978; East-West Center, Honolulu, Hawaii, 1998; Festival of Indonesia, United States of America, 1990-92; and Museum Nasional, Jakarta, Indonesia, 1995.
