This painting is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Short Street Gallery that states:
‘Jan says “this is the birth place of my father’s clan. Our clan is also names Kirriwirri, and call each individual members of this clan Kirriwirri. There is a big warla (mud flat) at this place. This is what this painting is about.” Kirriwirri is the Great Sandy Desert close to and west of Well 33 on the Canning Stock Route. It is the birth place of Jan and her family, This work shows tali (sand dunes) and jila (living water).’

Annie McFarling was an enthusiastic and eclectic collector. A regular visitor to major commercial galleries such as Alcaston Gallery, Vivien Anderson Gallery and William Mora galleries in Melbourne together with Aboriginal and Pacific Art and Grant Pirrie in Sydney where she informed her appreciation of contemporary Indigenous art and acquired works by artists of renown, a selection of which we are offering here including paintings by Sally Gabori, Jan Billycan and Carmel Yukenbarri.
