The accompanying Warmun Tradiional Artists certificate reads; ‘Rover was born in the desert on the Canning Stock Route, at a place called “Thirty Three Wells”, near the community of Kunawaratji, where as a young boy, he hunted and gathered the desert food with his father and family. “Gudiyas” (white men, usually drovers) would “take” young boys for work on Kimberley cattle stations, Rover was one of these boys, taken first to Bililuna, by the drover Wally Dowelling, where he learnt about fencing and droving, and then he went to Texas Downs Station in the Kimberley's where he underwent tribal initiation and was accepted as one of the Kija people of “Warramun” (Warmun).’
