In 1885 Carse closed up his Sydney studio at 7 Bridge Street and travelled with his artist friend George Podmore to Hobart, arriving on 20 December. The two artists returned together to Sydney on the shipEskin January 1886. Tasmanian subjects by Carse are extremely rare.
