This work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Papunya Tula Artists which states:
‘This painting is associated with the Mallierra Ceremonies at the important site of Ngalyipi, adjacent to Karrinyarra (Central Mount Wedge). Two older men, responsible for teaching the law, are depicted at Ngalyipi, with their boomerangs and spears, ready for teaching young men.
As the ceremonies associated with this painting are known as Mallierra and are of a secret nature, no further details were given. However, generally speaking, these ceremonies are concerned with the higher education of post-initiatory men.’
